The house has been refurbished to a high standard, with artwork and other details, and there’s a small welcome pack with a bottle of Proseco, a nice packet of biscuits and a small box of Yorkshire Tea. The WiFi worked well throughout. There’s a hi-tech kitchen with a Rangecooker, dishwasher, microwave and American-style fridge/freezer, plus a washer and dryer on the ground floor. Toilets are on the ground, first and second floors. Outside, there’s a paved garden with a table and chairs and an apple tree with sift lights, as well as a large front garden. We booked through Sykes Cottages, and it turns out our party of five were the second guests. The house suits larger groups of up to 7 or 8. There’s one double and one single bedroom on the first floor, with a shared shower bathroom. The top floor has two double bedrooms and a shared bathroom with a roll topped bath. One double bed can be unzipped to make twins, and the owner asks which arrangement you’d like before you arrive. It’s a 5 - 10 minute walk into Leyburn for shops, Churches, the Art Centre, restaurants, takeaways, pubs, the market and events. The Wensleydale Railway, Garden Centre, Distillary and Chocolate Factory are a couple of minutes away. Many tourist attractions are a short 20 to 30 minute journey. You need to climb stairs to reach the bedrooms, though visitors can enter at level access from the back. There’s a downstairs loo, but it’s very tight because the sink is close to the door and there’s a radiator behind it. Two parking spaces are available at the back. Our group had three cars because we came from different places and had work commitments, so one car parked inside the gates and the other two used the dedicated spaces. There’s a reasonably priced petrol station with a small shop across the road. Child friendly, yes. Pets, no. When leaving, guests are asked to strip the beds and put the bedding and towels into two IKEA bags for the cleaning crew.
