The Street Head Inn

The liver with crispy bacon and mash was spot on. Tender, full of flavour, crisp bacon, and smooth, comforting mash, it all went together so well. Proper hearty food, highly recommend!

We’d been driving for over two hours, so this stop was very welcome, and we weren’t expecting much. The haddock in the fish and chips was delightful, and the food was excellent. The staff made us feel welcome as soon as we came in, with their personal touch as well as the pub’s atmosphere. It felt like somewhere I’d be happy to get snowed in, even though it was July. We were on our way to a wedding in Bainbridge, so I can’t see us returning unless we’re out for the day, but I’d come back.

We had a family meal while staying near Layburn. There was a good choice on the menu, prices were good, and the portions were generous. My curry was really tasty. I didn’t manage to get a photo with the big popadom and chutney pot, which was very tasty too.

Our family room had one double and one single bed. It was clean, and the bed, especially the pillows, was really comfortable. We also had a lovely breakfast and a fantastic view from the bedroom window. The tea tray was well stocked, and the bathroom was big enough for a nice bath as well as a shower. There’s a large car park, though the inn is next to a static caravan site, so I’d book a table in summer as it could get busy. It’s a nice place in a really old coaching inn. My only complaint is that the bedroom TV needs to be much bigger. I know you don’t go away to watch television, but it’s nice to have something to watch when you go to bed or have children.
