Travelodge Elgin

Martin was brilliant. He was covering reception and the bar while also cooking, even though the hotel seemed understaffed, and stayed helpful, friendly and professional throughout. He deserves a raise! The room was clean and warm, the food tasted good and there was plenty of parking. I’d definitely recommend it. One of the best Travelodges I’ve stayed in.

Being able to get dinner and a drink at the hotel was handy as a woman travelling alone, and the staff were really helpful. There’s a Starbucks, Gregg and petrol station about a five-minute walk away. The welcome was nice too. It’s right beside a main road, but the building is new and pretty soundproof.

The staff were amazing and always happy to help, and I had some lovely conversations with them. The room was very tidy, and having a bath was great. The bed, though, was the hardest we’ve ever slept on. I was awake for the day by 2am 🙃

We spent the whole night scratching and woke up with bites everywhere and blood spots on the sheets. There wasn’t anyone around in the morning to complain to, and now we’re worried we might bring bed bugs home. We may have to leave all our belongings outside and bin our clothes. The room was filthy, with dirty towels left on the bathroom door and hair everywhere. When we pointed it out, a staff member said the cleaners had been busy that morning and must have missed the towels, then walked away. There was no dinner menu, only pizzas, because of staff shortages. We’d stayed one night on the way through and paid £124, plus £10 each for breakfast. After an accident delayed us by 2.5 hours on the way back to Aberdeen the next day, this was the only place available. We were charged £171 for room only.
