The women serving were working hard to cover both the bar and the tables, and we appreciated it. Service isn’t included in the bill, so it’s up to you whether to add any. The main bar was pleasant, with a log fire and bits of Christmas decorations still up. The beer options, Harvey's and Hopheads Dark Star, were both superb. We stopped for lunch on a Wednesday in January; the pub was busy, with many tables occupied, which should please Rachel Reeves with the new Rates charges. We found a table and looked at the menu. It looked nice, though a little limited outside the Garden Section. We ordered a burger for £16.95 and a Buddha Bowl with fish for £17.50. The food took a while, as it was busy and freshly cooked to order, but both meals were very nice. The only thing that spoiled them was some horrible, large, old cutlery. An ordinary wine was £9.00 for a 250ml glass, and soda water cost £2.00. Hospitality is taking a battering, and getting the balance of product and price right is a challenge. Might come back, though I really prefer ordinary pub food.

Five of us came for a 75th birthday meal, and every plate went back empty. The food was delicious, and the two waitresses looking after us were really polite and friendly. Very cosy and comfortable, with great service and ambience.

The pub was busy and welcoming, with a great atmosphere, and the staff were agreeable and accommodating. I had a few problems, but they sorted them out quickly and amicably, and I was completely satisfied. The room was clean and the bed comfortable, although the view was of the recycling bins and the bathroom could do with an upgrade. The price reflected those things. It’s a lovely pub in a great location, and I’d stay again.

The salt and pepper squid was cooked perfectly, and my kids said it was the best they’d tasted. The food is to die for. We can’t fault this place in any way. All the staff are professional, friendly, welcoming and happy to accommodate your needs. We’ll certainly come back.

The pub itself is lovely, with good food and a pleasant atmosphere, but the rooms made the stay uncomfortable and not at all relaxing. We’d booked a double and a family room. Both looked drab, with older furniture and carpets and bare walls, and could use modernising. In the family room, the bed was broken: the slats kept falling through the middle, making it unusable. The sofa bed was okay, but there was no bedding for it in the room. The double room was a little better and its bed was fine, but a very loud extractor fan nearby never switched off, leaving a constant hum. After a few hours, we all agreed we couldn’t relax and were uncomfortable, so we left. Disappointing. The pub is lovely, but be warned if you’re staying overnight.
