We enjoyed both meals, the burger (£16.95) and the Buddha Bowl with fish (£17.50), though the food took a little while to come out. It was busy, as we’d been told, and everything is freshly cooked to order. The food was very nice, but those horrible, oversized old cutlery pieces put a bit of a damper on it. The menu looked nice, though I found it a little limited apart from the Garden Section. A 250ml glass of ordinary wine was £9.00, and soda water was £2.00. We stopped in for lunch on a Wednesday in January and most tables were taken, which will please Rachel Reeves with the new Rates charges! The main bar had a nice log fire, and the leftover Christmas decorations made it feel quite cosy. The beer options, Harvey's and Hopheads Dark Star, were both superb. The ladies serving were working hard across the bar and tables, and we appreciated their effort. Service isn’t included in the final bill, so it’s your choice whether to add some. Hospitality is taking a battering, and finding the right balance between product and price is a challenge. I might return, but I really prefer straightforward, ordinary pub food.

The food was delicious, and we left with five empty plates after a 75th birthday meal for our table of five. The two waitresses looking after us were friendly and very polite. It was a cosy, comfortable place with great service and a lovely atmosphere.

The pub feels busy and welcoming, with a great atmosphere, and the staff were accommodating and agreeable. I had a few issues, but they were sorted quickly and amicably, exactly to my satisfaction. The room was clean and the bed comfortable. The view was poor, straight onto the recycling bins, and the bathroom could use an upgrade, though the price reflected that. It’s in a great location, and I’d stay again.

The food was amazing. My kids say the salt and pepper squid was the best they’ve ever had, and it was cooked perfectly. Everyone on staff was professional, friendly, welcoming, and happy to accommodate our needs. We can’t fault the place in any way, and we’ll definitely come back.

We all found the rooms uncomfortable and not at all relaxing, so after a few hours we left. In the family room, the bed was broken, with slats falling through the middle, which made it unusable. The sofa bed was okay, but there was no bedding for it in the room. The double room was a little better, with a bed that wasn’t broken, but the extractor fan nearby was very loud and never switched off, leaving a constant hum. The pub itself is lovely, with good food and a pleasant atmosphere. We’d booked two rooms, one double and one family room, but both were drab, with bare walls, old furniture, and worn carpets. They need modernising. It was disappointing. The pub is lovely, but be warned if you’re planning to stay overnight.
