After the walk we went the short distance into town, which was extremely busy, with cafes and pubs for food and drink and a few shops to browse. The river looked so clear and clean, and we saw people enjoying a cold water swim. The riverside walk has open scenery and lots of space, even when it's busy, and is lovely. The main car park costs £6 for a full day's parking, so it's worth it. Wear proper walking footwear: parts are rugged underfoot, and there are a few stiles to clamber over. Lots of people bring dogs. Most were on leads, but a few were loose among the sheep roaming the fields by the river. Our nervous dog stayed on a lead, and we didn't appreciate loose dogs bounding up when we couldn't know their temperament. It's a lovely walk for people able to manage the terrain. Worth a visit.

In this part of the National Park, it seems private landowners' rights count for nothing. People just walk and cycle in, bring barbecues, and spend the day there. Summer months only.

There's plenty to see around here and lots of places to eat. I especially recommend Stump Cross Caverns. The area itself is beautiful, calm, relaxing, clean, and refreshing.

We walked about three miles along the river, through a mix of track, forest, and fields. The scenery was lovely, the ground was firm underfoot, and there were a few pebble beaches.

A relaxing setting with a beautiful view from the living room window. It's a really nice spot for a family holiday, with plenty to do nearby.
