Chateau Julie

We travel around the UK, and this was just right for a night’s stop. The rooms are superb, warm and cosy, with great facilities. The hosts looked after us and were lovely to chat with, and their two dogs were adorable. We’ll book again.

Calling this a B&B feels unfair to actual B&Bs. It came across more like a temporary house share, and I never had any personal contact with the main host. Breakfast was just help-yourself cereal from three already-open boxes and half a sliced loaf, with milk but no juice in a small fridge. There was nowhere to eat. I’d seen three-star hotels in the city for less, and this wasn’t a convenient base for Liverpool unless you have your own transport. Disappointing.

I left as soon as I saw the room, so I can’t really say I stayed. I knew the low price meant I shouldn’t expect much, but this place was shocking. The bed was basically a mattress on the floor, and the “free breakfast” was cereal in a cupboard in a dirty kitchen. We’d paid for a private bathroom, then were told after arriving that it wasn’t available. They also wouldn’t let us check in until 9:30 because we’d only booked the day before. After all that, they said they don’t handle refunds.

Julie and her son Craig made us feel right at home. The hospitality was excellent, definitely a 10 out of 10. Thanks, Julie, for a wonderful stay. ALFIE xxxxxxxxxxx.
