Smeaton Street Accommodation

We were left without anywhere to stay because the owner communicated so badly. For months we’d been asking about early check-in and were willing to pay extra, but he kept saying he couldn’t tell us because he didn’t know availability. Even on the night before, he still hadn’t confirmed whether we could check in early. It’s his air b n b, so how hard is it to give a yes or no? If you need guaranteed accommodation, don’t book here. I think it’s a scam, and people shouldn’t give their money to an owner who seems driven by greed and inconsistency instead of good customer service. Calling this appalling would be putting it mildly.

The location is a big plus, only 20 minutes from Anfield Stadium. We were in a renovated one-storey building beside the main one, with new equipment, but it was dirty. The floor felt sticky and needed dusting, the fridge didn’t work and smelled bad, and the previous guests’ rubbish hadn’t been taken out. There was also a pile of trash outside the building. I’d give the cleanliness one star.

After our 18 hour trip, we arrived at the expected time, between 9 and 10pm, hoping to shower and go to bed. I’d arranged the late check-in a week earlier, but the manager was nowhere to be found. After messages, calls, emails and hours of waiting, we gave up and booked another hotel. At noon the next day, the property manager messaged, “sorry mate I was sleeping,” then sent the apartment access code. He said he’d emailed to say he was sick, but that wasn’t true, and acted like it was fine not to prepare for our arrival even though he knew he might not be available. Don’t ask me for ID a few hours before arrival when you’ve had a week to get organised. To anyone reading this, stay somewhere else if you value your time, money and self worth. This was unorganized and unprofessional.

I had a completely restless night, with a loud party going on at the property until the early morning. My room had a strong smell of smoke, cigarettes in the toilet, no towels and other amenities were missing. The bedsheets were dirty, there was no hot water, and the rooms were filthy. When I tried to speak to the owner, he was very aggressive and I felt scared. Please spare yourself the trouble and stay somewhere else. Literally anywhere else would be better. Cheers.
