The breakfast staff member was brilliant and very friendly, working nonstop on her own. She could really use some help. The area is lovely and the building looks great from outside, but inside it needs a full renovation. The decor was dated and messy, and we couldn’t use our shower because the shower head wouldn’t stay in place. My wife asked for chips instead of mashed potatoes, which she doesn’t like, but the mash still arrived on her plate. When she asked about it, she was told that was how the chef likes to serve it. Sorry, but I wouldn’t stay here again.

We stayed in room 11, a superior king room at the back of the abbey, overlooking the caravan site, hills and fields. It’s close to amenities, just a short walk or drive away, and has great views. This is a beautiful old manor, inside and out, with many original features still intact. The rooms are comfortable, clean and spacious, the food is fresh and delicious, and the staff and owner are lovely and accommodating. I tried the mullet and really enjoyed it.

The oak drawing room and fireplace were a lovely spot to relax and chat over a bottle of red. We had a wonderful two-night break in a beautiful historic building in the countryside. David was a fantastic host who’s passionate about what he does. We also met his three gorgeous rescue dogs. David checked beforehand whether anyone was uncomfortable around dogs, so they aren’t forced on guests. I’d love to come back with my two dogs. It’s a great location, and the staff are so friendly and welcoming.

The room was warm, neat and tidy, with plenty of towels and tea and coffee ready to use. I loved the decor and the huge sweeping staircase. It’s quirky and quaint, the staff are really friendly, and breakfast was hot and tasty.

Mawnan Abbey Hotel may not suit everyone, but it suited us. We had a great overnight stay and enjoyed the company, food and atmosphere. David was a terrific host.
