I wasn’t staying there, but I needed somewhere to charge my phone and couldn’t find anything open that afternoon, not even a cafe. I went in and the man working there was really helpful. He made me a cup of coffee, chatted with me, and explained how to walk to my destination. If I ever visit again, I’d definitely stay there. Those are the kind of friendly people you want working in a hotel.

The food didn’t come close to justifying the price, breakfast was salty and overpriced, and dinner was pub food at best. We arrived to find our booking had been messed up and had to pay extra. The receptionist was rude from the start, with a look that could kill a 50 ton elephant, and her English was broken. The manager was a little more helpful when I asked for him. Our room was basic, smelled damp, and had no bath. I suspect that was deliberate. I explained I have spinal problems and needed a bath, but was told nothing could be done that night and it would be sorted the next day. It wasn’t. The service was abominable, the hotel wasn’t worth the money, and I won’t stay again or recommend it.

The portions are huge, and there’s dessert included in the price if you’ve still got room after the main. I’ve been to Miramar Hotel several times for Sunday roast, and it’s among the best I’ve had anywhere, sorry Mum, even better than yours. You can choose chicken or melt in the mouth roast beef, served with roast, mashed, and boiled potatoes, Yorkshire puddings, stuffing, and lots of freshly prepared vegetables. The homemade gravy is to die for. There’s free parking at the rear, free WiFi, and a great choice of hot and cold drinks. I’d really recommend the hotel for its roast and cooked food in general.

The staff were so friendly, especially Elenida, the Portuguese lady. She couldn’t do enough for us and made us feel welcome the whole time. We’ve just come back from a lovely two-night stay. The rooms were lovely and very clean, and the food was fab. I’d highly recommend it and will definitely stay again.
