We parked our camper on the level, peaceful spot in the small car park right by the lake. There aren’t any facilities, but the location is stunning, and there’s a nice walk around the lake straight from the pitch. We decided to eat at the hotel and were glad we did: a log fire, a good choice of drinks, and plenty of food options prepared by Brian himself.

We had a newly decorated family room with plenty of space, and the breakfast was excellent. We enjoyed dinner there too. The hosts were kind and so helpful, nothing was too much trouble. The setting is stunning, and the views of the lake and quiet walks around it are second to none. The old property needs refurbishment, which is underway, but the location couldn’t be better.

The location is stunning, and the owners at Pen-y-Bont were fabulous. I’d booked two nights in the car park for my camper-van, Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd August, but my van got pranged on the way and I limped in on Sunday, a day late. It was the weekend of Storm Floris, my side window was smashed, and my insurers were being difficult. Even though the place was closed and builders were in, the owners were so accommodating, understanding, and helpful. They were even considering putting me up. I did see a couple of vehicles pull in and park, with occupants determined not to pay, which was so unfair.

We contacted Brian the day before arriving. Day parking is £5 and overnight parking is £15. We got there at 12 to spend the day and night in our camper vans, not at the hotel. The car park was flat, with direct lake access, and swimming was ace! We had a very quiet night, breathtaking views, and a lovely walk around the lake. There’s a local pub for food, but we wouldn’t recommend it: it wasn’t welcoming, and our food wasn’t nice. Thanks, Brian!

We came for a few days to celebrate a special birthday, and Angela and Brian were such friendly, considerate hosts. They did everything they could to make the stay memorable. The hotel was warm and cosy, with a roaring log fire, and the food was delicious and very high quality, which made the occasion even more enjoyable. The setting is stunning. If you’re after a peaceful, restful stay with excellent food and hospitality, we’d certainly recommend this lovely hotel. Pauline and Ian
