The location was a highlight, with lots of nice walks close by. You can reach Horseshoe Falls and the canal paths on foot, and there are lovely views of the steam train, River Dee, alpaca field, town and the ruined hill fort of Dinas Bran. We stayed with a large group over New Year. The rooms were warm, suitably furnished and had comfortable beds and fresh linens. There was always hot water in the en suites, and the shower was lovely. A few parts could use some TLC, but everything worked and suited our needs.

We left feeling more than happy with our stay, and I’d absolutely visit again. The room we were moved to was fabulous, with spectacular views over the River Dee, and the spa area with its Roman pool and steam room was lovely. We’d booked the stay for my 60th birthday, but on arrival we weren’t pleased to find the hotel being renovated, so we said so. The staff member helping us did everything he could to put things right and went above and beyond. He explained that we should have received an email about the work. The hotel’s riverside location gives you some of Llangollen’s best views, and it was a lovely, relaxing break.

We had a private get-together with our group here for six days, and everyone loved it. The hotel is warm and has a lovely feel, even with work still in progress. There’s a fabulous view, and town is only a few minutes away. Plenty of parking, plus lots of hot showers and baths. We’ll book again. I’d highly recommend it for big groups.

The Roman bath and steam room were a great extra, and the staff were so welcoming, cheerful and helpful. We had a lovely stay, despite my worries after reading some reviews. It’s an older place, but still nice, and our room had what we needed, including a comfy bed. The town is an easy walk away, with plenty of bars and restaurants, and there’s an Aldi down the road. Our room was very hot. We were right above the spa, which I think explains it, so a fan might come in handy.

We weren’t told when booking that the hotel was under construction, and at breakfast we had to look at a pile of building materials. Ladders were in the reception area and out on the deck. The front desk lady was very friendly, but the room was tired, with a freestanding wardrobe blocking the mirror, and nowhere to put our baggage except the floor. It was unbearably hot. Even with rain outside, the fan on and the window open, we had to sleep on top of the duvet. The spa below seemed to heat the rooms upstairs, and other guests had the same problem. Breakfast was basic: instant coffee, toast, two cereals, yoghurt and fruit.
