Glencoe Youth Hostel

The small lounge was lovely, and this hostel never got too crowded or noisy. We shared a cosy, quiet four-bed room, and the kitchen was clean and useful. The German guy at reception was friendly, too. There were quite a lot of bugs and spiders, especially in the bathroom, where the windows had to stay open to let the steam out. Given the hostel is right among mountains and forests, it wasn't really a surprise. One of the best hostel stays I've had.

The hostel sits among hills with amazing views, and it's hard to imagine a better base for exploring Glencoe. I stayed five nights and found the rooms spacious enough for the beds and our things. The beds were sturdy and the best I've had in a hostel. Luke and Thomas were both helpful and friendly. I spoke mostly with Luke and some with Thomas; they offered good exploring advice and asked about my day with real interest when I came back. Their personalities added a lot to the atmosphere, and they were always happy to answer questions. They prefer guests to be out during the day so cleaning is easier, but Thomas said the lounge was available if needed. They don't actually kick you out, and after 3pm you can come back and use all the areas. The bathrooms and toilets were clean, but old and in need of renovation. If those were updated, this would be the best place to stay in all of Scotland.

We had a great weekend celebrating a friend's 60th birthday while climbing Ben Nevis. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the place was very well equipped. We really enjoyed staying here.

Glencoe village is close by, which was handy. My friends and I spent five days and nights here and had a terrific time, surrounded by Glencoe's majestic mountains. The atmosphere felt magical, and I'm sure I'll return someday. Thomas welcomed us right away and was incredibly friendly and helpful. Luke and Fiona were just as kind and helpful.
