Imperial Hotel

For £70 a night, this was excellent value and a sensible choice for a short stay. The Imperial Hotel is conveniently placed near Fort William railway station, with several good breakfast spots close by. My simple single room was clean, everything worked, and the shower was particularly good. It's in an old, charming and somewhat maze-like building, and my room was on the second floor. There's no lift. The staff were rather neutral, but effective.

The issues built up over the stay. One of the teaspoons we found for making hot drinks was sticky and smelled of coffee, clearly not washed after the previous guest. The jet bath was another problem: as soon as we turned the jets on, gross gunk came out and filled the bath. At check-in we were already missing a towel, and the room wasn't spotless, though we initially thought it was acceptable for what we paid. We left disappointed. In general, if you're touring the area, I'd suggest staying in Glencoe instead of Fort William, which is considerably nicer.

The staff and food were superb, and the place was surprisingly decent overall. The shower was the one small letdown: it took a good ten minutes to get hot water, then stopped suddenly. A decent coffee machine at breakfast would be a good addition too.

On Sept 17, 2025, my husband and I went into the lounge hoping to get a drink and something to eat. It was empty when we arrived. A man came in behind us, and when I said, “Hi, how are you?” he bluntly replied, “What do you want!” We tried to wait it out, but after 8-10 minutes of being completely ignored, we left. It was the worst treatment we've had since coming to the UK over a month ago. That man should be fired. If that's the sort of people they hire, they're likely all like that. Not a good look for them. I'd give zero stars if I could.
