Amsterdam Hotel

We had to sleep in our coats and gloves in an ice-cold room, which was completely unacceptable for a paid stay that claimed to provide basic facilities. The heating wasn’t working and cold air came through windows that wouldn’t shut properly. We went to reception repeatedly to ask for help or a heater, but nobody was there. We also tried their “24hr line” without an answer. Hours later, when we finally got through, they said nothing could be done that night and promised a heater the next morning. By the next day at 5pm we still hadn’t heard anything and went back to reception, again finding nobody. Eventually we saw the man who’d checked us in the first night. He apologised and moved us to another room for our last night, which we appreciated, but the first night had already ruined the stay. We asked for a refund and they refused, saying the experience didn’t qualify. I was shocked by how they handled it, basically brushing us off and leaving us to deal with the cold until the next day. We stayed a few weeks ago and this was the worst hotel and customer service experience we’ve ever had. Wouldn’t recommend it.

We opened the “panoramic view room” door after climbing four floors, and the raw sewage smell was so bad my wife was physically sick. We went back down and left immediately, then had to pay out of pocket for somewhere else just to get away from the trauma. They wouldn’t refund us, even though the room and hotel were a health and safety liability and grossly misleading, nothing like advertised. This is a hostel, not a hotel. The lock was hanging on by one screw, so anyone could push the door open and it didn’t feel safe at all. The whole place was falling apart, mouldy and damp, and the smell was indescribable. Please avoid it at all costs.

When I stayed here before, it was an average hotel. I came back recently and found the staff, decor and cleanliness had all changed. The staff work very professionally and are always trying to provide a high standard of service.

The check-in worker was lovely, but the rest of the place was a mess. Our door lock was coming loose, the shower leaked, and the bathroom mirror was so filthy my finger touched its reflection. We got about two sheets of toilet paper left on a roll, and the whole room looked like it hadn't been cleaned. There was a big hole in the door to what seemed like an unsafe balcony, so it was quite drafty. You can hear everything through the walls, which could make sleeping hard if the neighbors are chatty. I've seen other reviews mentioning bedbugs too. My partner booked this, so I didn't know what to expect. I usually don't complain, but this place was genuinely bad, hahaha. No lift either. Definitely stay somewhere else.
