Astor Kensington Hostel

The location is fantastic, with quick access to Paddington and Queen’s Lane tube station about a five-minute walk away. The area is clean and pleasant, right beside Kensington and Hyde Park. We stayed for one night while in London for a concert, and Katie at the front desk was welcoming and kind from the start. We were booked in an eight-person women’s dorm, but it felt stuffy. When we told her, she quickly found another room so we could sleep comfortably. I've stayed here before, and the staff have always been accommodating and generous. I'd happily come back.

The building is old, but the staff keep it in good shape, which made for a pleasant stay in a great location. The rooms, bathrooms, and bed linens are cleaned regularly, and the kitchen is tidy, organized, and equipped with what you need. Sometimes there’s food to share, along with coffee, chocolate, and tea. There’s also a room with washers and dryers. I liked the group activities and the welcoming multicultural environment. It’s good for practicing languages, meeting people, networking, and making friends. Security seemed good: I didn’t see any theft, and there are cameras in the common areas. The staff are amazing, full of incredible people. Thanks for the smiles :)

The shared kitchen felt like home. We’d watch TV together, chat, cook, then wash our own dishes. It was fun living with my roommates in a community, quite different from the usual hotel routine. I felt safe, relaxed, and comfortable socially while staying here. TAY was the first person I met, and he’s an amazing guy with a lovely smile. He was so hospitable, and I appreciated that he speaks French, which made me feel less lost. He’s sweet and polite. Thanks, my G, for being so kind♥️ KATIE was amazing too. I loved her vibe. The staff were really friendly and helpful, and the hostel was cheap for London. It looked worn, but still had what I needed. My mixed 12-bed dorm was fairly spacious, with lockers that only fit small or medium bags and two small bathrooms just outside. The bed was comfortable, the blanket was good, and the USB port worked, which isn't always the case in hostel bunks. It’s a shame there were no curtains on the beds. The location was handy, about two minutes from Kensington Gardens and Hyde Park, and five minutes from two tube stations. I had a really good stay in the dorm, though I may have been lucky to share with quiet, respectful people who liked airflow. You don't always get that in a dorm, so it comes down to luck.
