Bell Inn

The staff are very nice, the beds are good, and the sheets were changed daily. Still, the bar was dirty, and I didn’t see a clean beer glass there. In winter the central heating wasn’t working, and condensation covered the bar windows because of the cold. Maybe it’s fine in summer. I stayed two nights, so don’t treat this as the final word. Go and see for yourself, you might have a different impression.

The room was a good size, modern and very good value, even though the surroundings weren’t great and the place didn’t look appealing from outside. The included continental breakfast was very limited. If I stayed again, I’d pay the £7 extra for a full English or just go to the cafe across the road.

Really nice room and a friendly atmosphere. The main road on one side and railway on the other make it noisy, though if you sleep heavily it probably won’t bother you. I’d definitely stay again.

Greene King has taken over and renamed the pub The Bell. The old website is still live, and someone is taking room bookings and taking people’s money through it. A man at The Bell was helpful, and another person had also arrived with a booking there. Don’t book under the old name. The new pub doesn’t accept bookings or offer rooms anymore.
