The stained carpets and other fabric coverings made me reluctant to walk barefoot in the room. The cleaning was satisfactory, but not good, and the marks on the footstools, curtains, carpets, and headboard covers in both rooms looked like they’d been there for ages. The hotel should replace those hard-to-maintain textiles with easier materials. The double room was tiny, with a bed that seemed about 150 cm wide, very tight for two small people; the twin room was a little bigger. We had two double rooms for our family during a four-night stay. The walls seemed paper-thin, too. The bathrooms looked recently renovated, but the limescale looks bad and collects dirt, something that could be fixed if they take care of it. There’s no air conditioning, although you can open the windows. Every morning the smell of fresh bread came into our room, which I didn’t like. We tried to spend as little time at the hotel as possible. From outside it looked cute, the reception was nice, the staff friendly, and it’s near two metro stops, restaurants, and Hyde Park. I wouldn’t recommend it until updated room photos show that the textiles, especially the carpets, have been removed.
The staff were absolutely lovely and very helpful, and the price was good. The location is fantastic, close to Kensington gardens and a quaint pub serving good lunch food. The family room was cramped with little storage, and the bathroom was small and needed replacing. The whole hotel felt tired and in need of serious refurbishment. Even the waste-paper bin was grubby and badly bent, though it would cost next to nothing to replace. Getting to the floor just below the top was a nightmare because of all the narrow, steep stairs. That can’t really be helped, but it’s useful to know if stairs are difficult for you. For one night, it’s not an unavoidable choice. Bear in mind that some rooms have a shared bathroom.
The rooms may be small, and ours was, though I don’t know if they all are. You could call the hotel directly to check. It didn’t bother us because we only came back late and didn’t have big suitcases. The beds were really comfortable, and there were coffee and tea makers in the room. The hotel has recently been renovated and was very clean, with extremely friendly, helpful staff. They even put out free fresh croissants and coffee each morning. It’s in a prime spot: two underground stations, shops, cafes, and restaurants are all 3-4 minutes away on foot, with plenty of breakfast and dinner choices nearby. Kensington Palace and gardens, Hyde park, Portobello Road market, and picturesque Notting Hill are all reachable in about 10 minutes on foot. It suited us as individual travellers looking for an authentic London experience.
It’s been refurbished recently, and the room design is lovely, modern, and clean while still feeling welcoming and homey. The staff were friendly and attentive, making sure guests were comfortable. The atmosphere was cozy, and the hotel itself is very nice. It’s centrally located with public transport nearby. Highly recommended!
The neighborhood is beautiful, the location is fantastic, and the staff were incredibly courteous. The rooms are small and a little dated, but they’re not filthy or uninhabitable. It’s a place to sleep and get ready, which was enough for me in a city as magnificent as London. At $60 a night, what more would you expect?
