Room 415 cost £93 a night, and I left feeling this was the worst hotel stay I've ever had. The reception staff were warm and friendly, and they deserve better than being linked with this place. The room was unbearably hot, and I couldn't get comfortable enough to sleep. The dirt throughout the hotel was shocking. I've stayed in budget hostels that were much cleaner. There was renovation work on a whole floor, with dust, rubble and building materials in the way of guests trying to reach their rooms. We hadn't been told about the work when we booked, and the conditions felt like a health and safety hazard. The online photos bore no resemblance to what we found. For that price I expected a clean, safe, usable room, and got none of those things. Calling this a hotel is generous. Don't be taken in by the pictures. Avoid it and save yourself the misery.

We had a great three nights in London, and The Brompton was a handy base for exploring. It was affordable, which left us room in our budget for more experiences. My son and I slept really well on the crisp, clean linen and comfortable beds. The room was quite the facilities were in good working order, including WiFi, a kettle, tea and coffee, hairdryer, safe and a small Samsung TV. We were on the top floor, so hot water took a while, but letting it run for a minute or two before showering did the trick. The en-suite was small, though the Grohe fixtures were good quality. There’s no lift, so getting bags up and down takes some effort. Harry at reception offered to help, but we managed. The hotel is still being refurbished and looks worn in places, but it worked perfectly for sleeping, washing and heading out. The luggage storage was a godsend since we arrived early and left late. It’s in an open area, though access seemed limited to staff and other guests storing bags. We left only clothes there. Everyone we met on staff was friendly and helpful. I can’t fault our stay and would happily return.

We like The Brompton Hotel and the front desk team were lovely and helpful throughout our stay. Room 403, though, needs attention. I worked for 12 years as a hotel maintenance supervisor, so I noticed several problems. On our last night, loud music from the next-door Room 402 woke us at 1:20 AM. The hot water was also very slow in the morning, taking about 10 minutes to reach the tap. Standard Health & Safety guidance says it should arrive within a minute. There were lighting problems too. The left bedside lamp didn't work, just as it hadn't on our visit two weeks earlier, so it seems to have been missed or ignored. The bathroom mirror's built-in light was out as well. And the double socket on the right side of the bed was faulty. We had to pull the plug halfway out to get a connection, which is a clear safety issue and needs replacing immediately. The hotel's location is fantastic, and we appreciate the staff. Management needs to inspect rooms more carefully and support maintenance so the room condition can match the service.

South Kensington tube station is right nearby, with lots of lovely restaurants and bars around, so the location is fantastic. I've been staying here for 20 years, and the staff are kind and compassionate. They treat me like family. The rooms are very clean, and the bathrooms are new and nice. There's a desk too if you need to work. Thanks, Harry. See you all soon! Catherine x

I stayed here while my partner was having surgery at the Marsden, and it was a great experience. Harry was especially kind to me. My room was tidy and clean, with a very comfortable bed and a brand new bathroom. The TV had loads of channels too. I'd definitely stay again.
