citizenM Tower of London

My first visit to this hotel and to citizenM, and I’m impressed. I could choose a room looking over the Tower of London. The check-in machines said check-in started after 2pm, but Roberta was in the lobby and overrode the prompt so I could get in at noon. After an overnight transatlantic flight, I really appreciated that. The room was bright and clean, just right for the night, and had a small fridge for the food I brought. I can get some sleep now, meet friends in the City this evening, then head home once the jet lag hits again. The lively lobby has people working, a cafe and a coffee area. Roberta also told me there’s a free water dispenser. I’m expecting breakfast in the morning before heading onward. If this first impression holds, I’ll definitely come back.

A friend recommended the hotel, and we enjoyed our stay immensely. It was spotless and well presented, with modern, very clean rooms, wide comfortable beds and great facilities. The staff were exceptional, and we couldn’t find anything to fault. We had a room overlooking the Tower of London, and the view made it well worth booking a Premier room. Really enjoyed it!

The staff were warm, welcoming and genuinely friendly, and I’d happily stay again. This is a brilliant place for young couples and families with teenagers, and the underground is literally around the corner. Downstairs, the living room is great if the weather is rubbish, with a coffee shop at the front, a bar at the back, and food and snacks. The room design is beautiful and compact, but arranged so cleverly that it feels more comfortable and functional than many bigger rooms. You do need to be agile, since there’s only one way to get into bed. The bed takes up most of the room, with the sink in the main area and the shower and toilet enclosed in a wet area. It seemed a bit strange at first, but you get used to it. Lights, TV, ventilation and blinds are all controlled by iPad. Blackout blinds and good ventilation made for a perfect night’s sleep. A hip and trendy bed in central London, what more do you need?

I booked an accessible room, and it was a good size with a brilliant wet room. Having everything lower was a real help. The views over Tower Bridge were fantastic, right in front of us. We had to call down for extra pillows because there weren’t any spare under the bed as there should have been, but otherwise the stay was great. I wish CitizenM would add more plug sockets or make it clearer what’s available, since my partner and I were sharing the one UK mains socket. During the heatwave, it was hard to tell the air conditioning was on, and we struggled to sleep because it was too warm. I also wish the room temperature could be lowered below 18°.
