Hampton by Hilton London Croydon

The room was nicely presented and housekeeping kept it that way. Breakfast was always a pleasure too. I liked seeing the chef come out to check that the buffet looked good and guests were enjoying the food. A lovely touch. The staff made the stay especially good. France, Sophie, Mona, Rita, Munej and Indica were warm and professional every time I spoke with them, and were always ready to help. Mona was particularly kind, and chatting with her during breakfast was a delight. I'm sure she'll do well in whatever she takes on. It was a wonderful stay, and such a joy meeting them all. Wishing those lovely staff members all the best.

I was in London for business and stayed here for one night. The hotel is an easy walk from East Croydon station, which made getting into central London convenient. The staff were welcoming and accommodating, and the whole experience was great. I look forward to coming back.

We slept poorly because the walls are thin. The TV in the next room was on until 2am, which was unfortunate. If you can get a quieter room, though, you should have a very enjoyable stay. The rooms were clean and well cared for, and the staff were friendly, attentive and keen to help. Rita in the restaurant was especially welcoming and kind.

I left feeling frustrated by the way the extra charges and checkout were handled. Although I'd paid in full beforehand, I was charged another 3 on arrival, with no explanation for the 315. I was also asked for a 330 deposit, something I haven't come across at other Hampton locations. At the bar, a male staff member asked whether it was “okay to not give change” for a drink, which felt like an unprofessional way to ask for a tip. At checkout at 10:00 AM, I queried the 315. The receptionist brushed me off, first calling it a “conversion fee.” I showed proof that it wasn't, but she said it “wasn't her problem” and told me to contact my booking platform. It came across as if guests booking through third-party sites weren't valued. My Hilton Honors points also never appeared, despite being promised. There were some good things: the room was nice, the breakfast team was lovely, and they promptly provided a travel cot. But I'd paid in full upfront, so being charged again and treated so dismissively was unacceptable.
