Hotel Strand Continental - Hostel

Breakfast was out of this world, with so many choices, from continental food to a full English and plenty more. Nobody watches what you eat, so you can enjoy as much as your appetite allows. We stayed one night and enjoyed the whole experience. The location was fantastic, the interior lovely, the staff superb, and everywhere was clean. The room was modern and clean, though slightly small, and came with a range of tea and coffee, bottled water, and lovely chocolate. I’d stay again. A thoroughly good stay.

The location is freaking sweet, with everything close by, plenty of buses around, and a subway station nearby. It suited us because we wanted to spend our days outside and just crash there overnight. The room was clean, though small if you’re a big person, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The shower sensor kept switching off the lights every three seconds. It seemed like an easy fix for the owner, so it felt like neglect. You get what you pay for, and we were satisfied with the stay overall.

We left our bags there while we went to the theatre, and the staff were helpful and pleasant about it. The location is brilliant. The room was clean and tidy, but the whole building felt very outdated, and I think the showers and toilets really need updating. I’d read complaints here about dirty toilets, and ours were dirty too. But that isn’t the hotel’s fault, it’s down to people using the facilities. Just learn to flush, it’s simple really!

The location was the only good thing. The place is cheap, but you definitely get what you pay for, and there are far better places that won’t take your money without providing a clean bed. The photos are very deceiving. I’d like to know where they put the new mattresses shown on the beds. Ours were clearly old, maybe from the 70s or earlier, stained, broken, and apparently never cleaned. We had to make the beds ourselves. At least the pillowcases were already on, but I made the mistake of looking at a pillow. Don’t. It had clearly never been washed and was disgusting. The shared showers and toilets barely worked and were leaking. The building is old and clearly not maintained. DO NOT stay here!
