Leonardo Royal Hotel London City

The room was the standout, perfect in every way, and we had possibly the best night's sleep in years. We didn't want to get out of bed. Breakfast was delicious too. We booked an impromptu night, and everything from walking in to leaving was far beyond what I'd expected for the price in Central London. Every staff member we met was friendly and did all they could to make the stay perfect. I'd be blown away if I ever had a better one-night stay in London at that price. 100% recommended.

Diana at reception was especially helpful, always smiling and ready to answer my questions, both when I arrived and every evening. Still and sparkling water was left in the room each day, which was great after a long workday. I was in room 609, an executive room with a landmark view. It was quite big, but needs renovating. The bed and pillows were very comfortable. The AC was noisy, so I had to turn it off. The hotel is just a few steps from Tower Hill tube station, which may also explain some of the noise. It's a safe area, within a few steps of London City.

Breakfast was perfect, and the people serving there were especially friendly. The desk staff were nice too and helped with our questions. We stayed four nights and liked the hotel's style overall. The bathroom hygiene let the room down, with dirt and limestone on the sink and shower. The SPA rules said children weren't allowed after 9 p.m., and there was a worker handing out towels and checking people in. We arrived at 9:15, and five minutes later a dad and his kids came in anyway, playing around and jumping from the corner. It didn't feel like a SPA at all. Why have those rules and a worker at the entrance if they're not enforced?

After a nine-hour travel day, my husband and I, aged 71 and 65, were put in a very hot room even though the AC problem was already known. We were told Maintenance would check it, but after waiting in the heat, I had to go down to the concierge and ask to be moved to somewhere with working AC. The other room was in a different building, and because my husband has a back issue, I had to carry our luggage up three flights of stairs myself. Based on how this was handled, I'd hesitate to stay at another of your hotels or recommend one to anyone.
