Montagu Place Hotel

For the price, Montagu Place Hotel felt more like a three star than a four star stay, and we'd choose somewhere else next time. The location was good, and the bathroom was clean, simply designed, and pleasant enough, with okay water pressure and the option of a small bath. The bed was a real letdown. It was very soft and bouncy, and I could feel the springs even through the thick topper. It was advertised as a double (4’6”), but felt small for the room, which could easily have fitted a king. The linen was good quality and there were plenty of pillows, which we appreciated, though the pillows didn't make up for the bed. Temperature control was all over the place. At night, even with the heat turned up, cold air blew around the bed and it felt drafty. There was only a thin blind, and thicker curtains would have helped. By morning the room was too warm. Noise was another problem: from our basement room we could clearly hear people moving upstairs. Reception didn't feel particularly welcoming, no one offered help with luggage, and staff didn't seem in much of a hurry to sort out issues. Overall, it didn't meet our expectations for a four star hotel and felt overpriced.
