Pacific Hotel

Our room looked out the front and had a wardrobe plus two sets of large bedside drawers. The staff were pleasant, polite and helpful, and we had a basic cooked breakfast that was good. Tea, coffee and a kettle were available if requested. The hotel was being redecorated. It suited us well, though it isn't suitable for disabled guests because there's no lift.

The breakfast was poor quality, and I was told I couldn't have more without paying extra. I only ate one or two eggs a day and had some coffee, so the service felt really bad and wasn't what I'd paid for. They didn't offer drinking water at breakfast. On request, they used tap water, which had a strong unpleasant taste; I was concerned the water system needed cleaning before it was served to guests. There were no complimentary toiletries in the room, just used hand soap with pubic hairs. The curtains and bathroom mirror were dirty too. Not a good choice if you want somewhere clean or a healthy stomach.

The room was ample in size, and the bathroom worked well. Check-in was quick and easy, and the continental breakfast was included and good. It's near Paddington station, and the price was good. The beds were uncomfortable, though not the worst I've slept in. No complaints otherwise.

The hotel's in a good location, which makes the state of the room cleanliness even more disappointing. We stayed one night, and the next morning I spotted rust-coloured stains on the sheets. A few days later, both of us had bed bug bites. I first thought the marks might be blood, and when I told the receptionist, he said sheets sometimes come back from the cleaners stained. I find it hard to believe I was the first guest to raise this. The room wasn't acceptably clean.
