Smart Russell Square Hostel

The location was really handy, close to Russell Square Underground Station and easy for getting around London by train or underground. Staff were courteous and helpful whenever needed, which added to a comfortable, pleasant stay at Smart Hostel. The shared kitchen was useful, especially for a longer visit. It had two refrigerators, a microwave, and a grill oven for storing food and making simple meals. Bed linens were provided and regularly cleaned, so we had fresh bedding. The rooms were comfortable and nicely arranged, with their own bathrooms. Rooms and common areas were cleaned regularly and were very hygienic and welcoming. With clean facilities, a good kitchen, comfortable rooms, and a convenient location, it's a good choice for London travellers.

I had a clean bed in a quiet six-bed dorm and even got a bottom bunk. The night staff were incredible: I needed to catch a 6:00 AM train, and they personally made sure I woke up. For £11/12 in London, the service and location are hard to beat. The rooms are small, but there's everything you need for a safe, efficient stay, especially if you're a seasoned traveller catching an early Eurostar. A real budget traveller's hidden gem, and don't let the 3.3 rating put you off.

The rooms were far too hot. I was there in the middle of winter, and even with the window open and fan going, I was sweating. The bathroom light has a motion sensor that switches off every 30 seconds, so you either have to leave the shower to turn it back on or shower in the dark. Neither option is great. There are no elevators either, so think twice about bringing a suitcase unless you're ready to carry it upstairs. There are good points: the amenities are clean, breakfast is good, and the staff are helpful and organized. They try to accommodate requests and give useful local recommendations. The Wi-Fi works very well, the common areas are spacious and well maintained, and each bed has a privacy curtain that blocks light nicely. For a hostel, it's not the best but definitely not the worst. It's central, close to public transport, the British Museum, and other attractions. If you want somewhere cheap and central, it does the trick.

A good option for budget travellers, including solo women, since they have girls-only bunks. The clean bunk beds and the common area were highlights for me. It's a nice place to relax and meet other travellers. Breakfast is available for a good price, with a buffet where you can help yourself. The shared toilets and washrooms were clean. The hostel is central and easy to reach by tube and train. Russel Square is the nearest metro station, and Kings Cross is the nearest train station. After the 12 checkout, you can leave your luggage in a locker if you still have time before heading off. Bring your own key and lock for it, though, or you'll have to buy one there. I'd highly suggest it for solo travellers, women, and people on a budget who still want the perks.
