The location is the one thing this hotel still has going for it, though it’s noisy at night and early in the morning, and the soundproofing is poor. It’s now called STG Oxford Street, but it isn’t actually on Oxford Street. We’ve stayed five times, most recently before Christmas 25, and returned in march 26 under new ownership. Since then the cost cutting has been obvious everywhere. We regretted recommending it to friends, though luckily they hadn’t booked. Our next stay is already booked somewhere else. Do yourselfe a favour and pay a bit more for a better hotel. If I included swearing, this review would be much longer. There was no housekeeping for 4 days under the new policy, and the room still had rubbish from previous guests. We had to beg for fresh towels, soap and toilettepaper. Tip, they keep toilettepaper at reception/executive check in. The room wasn’t cleaned, the small bin was full after 2 days, and after 4 days they still hadn’t changed the bedding. They’d just turned the bedcover around, with the foot end now facing our heads and the same stain still there from the start. Check-in has also shifted from 2 to 3 p.m. A lot of things that used to be included have been removed, like the tea and coffee kettle. Other services now cost extra, including earlier check-in when rooms are already prepered at 20£ and luggage storage at 10£ per item, making the stay more expensive than at better hotels. Many reception staff were fired and replaced with PCs. The system doesn’t work well, and even the staff advertised for executive rooms tell people waiting in line to use the PCs. People are in the line because they’re having trouble with them. One PC failed to make our room key, costing us 20 min. of our payed early check-in. The hotel had been under renovation for years, and it seems they’ve stopped without planning to finish. The breakfast buffet has lost lots of options and moved to a far too small room that’s cramped to the brim. There used to be a cute little shop for things you might need during your stay, but some items have been put into two vending machines. They advertise that the bathrooms have toilettepaper, which says it all. The staff do what they can despite management. The prices feel like pathetic price gauging for maximal profit margins. There’s no housekeeping, the room was left dirty, and basic items were hard to get. The breakfast and facilities have also been cut back.
Had a fantastic stay at this hotel. The room was comfortable and well ventilated, and the Soho location made it easy to get to restaurants, shops and public transport. Having a supermarket downstairs was a big plus. Azidah deserves a special mention for going above and beyond to help me send a package. I really appreciated the great service and would definitely stay here again!
The staff are helpful, and the restaurants serve decent food for a reasonable price. The rooms are small and basic but clean and adequate. There’s no tea making equipment in the room, and each person gets just one towel and pillow, though you can request more. For such a large hotel, it doesn’t feel that way.
My room hadn’t been redone like some of the others, and I could have paid extra to move, but I went shopping instead. The hotel’s two restaurants and bar are handy to have, and the food was good. The staff were very nice, and that’s why I’m giving it a solid four.
For the price, four nights in the West End of London were amazing value, and the hotel made a perfect base for our trip. The Tube station was a 3 minute walk, with lots of sights and shopping either right there or 15 or 20 minutes away on foot. Breakfast was a great start to each morning, and there was nothing wrong with the food. The restaurant staff at breakfast and dinner were friendly and helpful, and reception staff happily brought us extra pillows and towels. The bed was comfortable too, so we’d gladly stay again. At first, though, we were disappointed by how dated the room was, and there were only 2 large towels, no hand towels and no bathroom floor mat. After reading reviews we wondered what we’d got ourselves into, but there was no need to panic. It’s a budget hotel that hasn’t been updated in many, many years. We think they’re in the process of doing that since it was taken under new ownership in 2025.
