The shared kitchen and lounge were clean and practical, with all the cooking utensils needed to make your own meals. I stayed for a training event over two evenings. The room was standard, clean, and tidy, with a good shower and en suite toilet.

The staff are genuinely lovely, always polite, professional, and helpful, and the accommodation itself is satisfactory and mostly meets expectations. But the WiFi is a major problem. It goes out almost every week, with the whole connection disappearing across multiple devices. This isn't just slow service, it's a complete outage, and it's a serious issue if you work or study from home. The problems continue despite ongoing maintenance. Sometimes residents are left without internet while other people in the building still have a connection, which is even more frustrating. The outages have disrupted my work and studies. There are a lot of positives here, but until the WiFi is reliably fixed, this remains an unacceptable drawback.

I've lived here for a few months, and the people are wonderful. Management and the onsite staff are friendly, remember your name, and go out of their way to help with maintenance requests and parcel collections. The shared areas are clean, and the building has a welcoming feel. Based on the staff alone, I'd give it five stars. The problem is the internet, which seems to fail at least once every week. As a student, that's a huge stress. The connection drops when I'm in a lecture, submitting work, or just trying to stream a film at the weekend. For the rent, I'd expect WiFi that can handle basic study needs. I want to give this place a perfect score because the staff make it feel like home, but the weekly outages are hard to ignore. If they modernized the network and made it stable, this could easily be the best student accommodation in the city.

I wouldn't recommend The Helix based on my time living there. My room went a long time without usable hot water. I reported it through the maintenance system, spoke with staff face to face, and had a call with management. People came to try fixes, but the problem was never resolved in my room. At one point I was told to use showers on a lower floor instead, which shows how long it went on. The fridge in my room also couldn't keep a safe temperature. It was eventually replaced, but only after some inconvenience. I'm also concerned about the formal complaint process. I gave them the information they requested and followed up, but communication was slow and it took a long time to get a final response. Maintenance follow-through and complaint handling fell short of what I expected. If you're thinking of staying here, I'd check how these issues are dealt with and how quickly they're resolved.

The noise was awful, even with the windows fully closed, as the video shows. I was given a room facing the railway, like about half the rooms, and couldn't sleep for days. I was getting maybe 2 hours a night, and it left me ill and in a complete mental breakdown. I contacted Paula from management and was told there'd be NO refund unless I found a replacement tenant or changed rooms. My tenancy was only 4 weeks, so how was I supposed to find someone in that time? I agreed to move, but on 21st Nov Friday 4pm, two male receptionists refused to let me change rooms. I told them LondonNest had arranged it, but they wouldn't call LondonNest to confirm, so I had another night of misery. In the new room, the noise was unbearable as soon as I opened the window, and even with it shut there was constant traffic right outside. After everything I'd already been through, it was the last thing I needed. I moved out 3 weeks early because I couldn't take it anymore. I'd booked for a month but left after ONE week, and still had to cover all the rent and moving costs myself. If you care about your health, sleep, or basic human decency, avoid this place. I hope sharing this saves someone else from the same exhausting mess.
