Ten Manchester Street

The room was clean, but it felt worn, and the carpets were dirty. The lift was a bit rickety. Everything else was just okay. At checkout we were told to pay a service charge, which seemed ridiculous. I later learned it was meant to be an optional tip for the staff, but the receptionist never explained that. Other reviews suggest the same thing has happened to others. That's dirty business. We won't be back.

Even if you're not staying at the hotel, it's a lovely place for well-made cocktails and nibbles that go with them. The cozy, pleasant atmosphere works well for a quiet evening or catching up with friends.

The staff were polite, and check-in and checkout went smoothly, but the hotel's condition and noise made the stay a letdown for the price. The room looked decades out of date, with worn carpets, old furniture, and dated bathroom fittings. Everything worked, but the place badly needs a full renovation to justify what they charge. Noise from the street, hallway and adjoining rooms made it hard to sleep peacefully, even with earplugs. The walls may be thin, or it may have been the traffic and neighbouring guests. I found it significantly overpriced. There are better places nearby with newer rooms and better sound insulation for similar or lower rates. I won't return or recommend it at the current price.

The staff were excellent, and the hotel was spot on for value. We've tried several London hotels over the past few years, and really enjoyed our first stay at No 10 Manchester Street Hotel. We'll be back. We've stayed in fancier rooms, but this one was good value. There are steep steps at the entrance, so it's something to bear in mind if mobility is an issue. Baker St bus stops are easy to reach, and Baker St and Bond St Tube stations are each about a 10-minute walk away.
