The Columbia

The highlight for me was the staff. Everyone I dealt with was absolutely lovely, helpful, and went out of their way for me. The hotel also has a cosy lounge for happy hour, a beautiful lobby and breakfast room, and a lovely building. I liked the stairway with its “selfie” mirror. Noise levels were reasonable for a hotel, with no issues. I hope I get the chance to come back.

I was here alone for work and got a twin room. The bed was very comfortable, everything was clean, and the simply furnished bathroom had a lovely hot shower, impressive in such an old, big building. The walls are thin, though: I could hear the next room talking and using the bathroom. I had earplugs, so it was fine. There’s a lot of history and character here. The counter staff were polite and check-in went smoothly. A wonderful hotel to stay in.

I stayed for seven nights in January and really liked the relaxed feel. The buffet breakfast was generous. Getting to transit and Hyde Park was easy, which was the best part for me. I was traveling solo, though I think it would suit a couple too. The bathroom felt dated, and sometimes I had to press twice to flush.

The location’s really convenient: it’s about a relaxed ten-minute walk to Paddington, there’s a bus stop right outside, and Kensington Park is across the road. Breakfast was lovely, with cereal, yogurt, different breads, cheese, ham and really nice coffee. I stayed in the Columbia for three nights and liked every one. My room was bigger than expected, with brand new furniture, a very comfy bed and nice bedding. The shower was great too, with instant hot water and strong pressure. As a foreigner, I enjoyed playing with the sink and its two taps. The building itself is quite old, so the floors squeak a lot and the walls are thin. If you’re a light sleeper, that will definitely be a problem. The rest was just part of the experience. Thanks so much, I’ll definitely stay again next time I’m back in London.
