The pub is in a lovely area, but our visit was a real letdown and poor value. We were charged a 15% service fee despite the food and inattentive service. We booked for four and clearly mentioned we’d have a pram. On arrival, our table was upstairs, which wasn’t possible with it. The answer when we asked for a table downstairs was dismissive: one might open up, but nobody knew when. We waited outside for about 20 minutes. After we were seated, staff oddly told us to mention the pram next time, even though we already had. Service stayed poor. We ordered roasts, papadelle and a burger, then waited 45-50 minutes for the mains without anyone checking in. The roasts were apparently acceptable, but on a Sunday there was no cauliflower cheese, which was disappointing. The burger was inedible: its bun was rock hard and crumbled when touched, the meat was dry and tasted reheated, and the chips were cold, stale and dry. The sticky toffee pudding arrived cold and had to go back.

The beef tartare was the evening’s standout, absolutely delicious, and there were plenty of drinks to pair with the dishes. The Italian chef does a wonderful job with high-quality ingredients and lovely flavors. Everything tasted great. What made the visit especially good was the team. They were warm and attentive without hovering, and clearly care about their work. They made us feel welcome. Good food, a nice atmosphere, and people who love what they do. I’ll make this a regular stop on trips to London :)

We were disappointed, though the venue was nice and our server was polite and courteous. We came as a family for Sunday lunch because the reputation and reviews had persuaded us to choose the place. All four of us ordered traditional roasts, but neither the plates nor the food were hot. I like cooked food served hot, which seems normal to me. We raised it with our server, and the meals were replaced, but the beef portion was much smaller, so we had to ask for more. The meal cost about £200 for four, with two of us drinking water. I’d expect better food from any restaurant. I don’t usually complain, but hope this feedback helps.

The chicken was incredible, tender and full of flavor, with a gourmet lemon and wild mushroom gravy. Really good mashed potatoes too. The apple pie was the bomb, and a cold Guinness rounded it all off. Awesome pub.

The roasted vegetables were a surprise highlight, with real attention to texture and flavor alongside the hearty meats. Service was great, and meeting Linda was a lovely bonus. She was delightful and encouraging, and made the experience even better. We were visiting from North Carolina and had our first Sunday Roast here today. It’s a lovely neighbourhood pub, and we see what the hotel concierge meant by calling it the area’s most authentic experience. We’d definitely return.
