We picked the king suite and had plenty of room for the two of us. It was very clean, housekeeping came daily, and the little window nook was a lovely place for coffee or a sit down. When the hair dryer didn’t work, someone brought me a new one. The toilet paper was a bit rough, but usable. The location made it easy to see London on foot. Most sights were about 15 minutes away, and our longest walk was around 40 minutes to the London Eye, past the palace, Big Ben and lots of shops. It’s far enough from the busy scene to feel quiet. The restaurant served tasty food in small, almost tapas-sized portions, though that may just be how it felt to me as a big American guy. The Nest bar is cute and stays open late for a nightcap. One thing to know if noise wakes you: on the 14th floor you can faintly hear chairs moving and music from the restaurant above. It didn’t bother me and I slept well, though jet lag meant we weren’t going to bed until about 2 or 3 a.m. The rate was reasonable for what we got.

The bed and duvet were so comfortable, and the room temperature was easy to control. I loved the city view and the benches for watching the sunset, plus the lighting gave the room a great feel. There were nice touches in the decor, and everything was spacious and very clean. I liked having a Nespresso machine, though I would have preferred a kettle too. The minibar was full, so there wasn’t much room for our own things. The bathroom felt chilly after a shower, and a heated towel rack might help. I’m still not keen on the window between the bedroom and the shower and toilet. It had a curtain, but it felt a little strange.

The only real disappointment was a minibar item that tasted off. I mentioned it at reception and they offered a replacement, but it never showed up. We didn’t stay for a meal at the restaurant, just had a quick look around. I understand it’s a modern Mexican restaurant, and it was busy while we were there. I can’t judge value for money since this was a surprise gift, but I’d happily return. We were there for my 40th birthday, and the hotel made a memorable setting. It has lots of real plants and thoughtful decor throughout. The entrance is understated, then inside the small reception smells wonderful. They apparently use the same signature scent all over the hotel, and I noticed it in the corridors and public spaces too. The layout is unusual but works: there are three lifts on the ground floor, two for guest rooms and one for the bar, which you access through reception. The water setup was a standout. There are refill taps in the corridors and bottles in the rooms, and the drinking water tasted some of the best I’ve had. I understand the shower and bedroom taps are filtered as well. Our room had lovely details, including a colour kaleidoscope and a little lantern. With those views, binoculars would be a nice addition. We asked about upgrading but were told the hotel was full. I don’t know the room category since it was booked as a surprise, but the room we had was genuinely excellent.

I’ve paid for my stay, but I still don’t have the invoice I asked for. I requested it while at the hotel and followed up by email, with no reply. Charging a customer and then ignoring a straightforward invoice request isn’t acceptable. I hope they sort this out soon.

I'm still owed over $200 AUD. I’ve been back to the hotel in person and spent two months emailing and calling, with physical evidence, but all I get are excuses and another wait. It’s a shame because the location is perfect and the place has real potential. The rooms look lovely and are spacious and very quiet. We liked the bathroom and shower, the window seating and views, the cute decor, plus the water stations and free lollies in the lobby. Separate lifts for guests and the rooftop bar and restaurant were handy when it got busy. But check the charges carefully, test the aircon, and don’t count on being acknowledged or welcomed. On our first stay in late August, sun made the room unbearably hot and the aircon couldn’t keep up. On the second, it wouldn’t turn on at all and showed an error. We were told to put up with it, but we had an event and strongly asked to move to the room next door as soon as possible. We appreciated that they did move us. Check-in itself was smooth and the staff were lovely when we spoke to them, but often we weren’t acknowledged. The refund mess was the final straw. I honestly wish I could give zero stars for service.
