The gardens in the middle are a nice place to sit for a bit, especially when the square is busy. Leicester Square has theatres, restaurants and famous cinemas all around it, and there's always plenty going on. In the evening, it lights up and is good for people-watching or just taking in the atmosphere. Between the street performers, film premieres and lively crowds, it feels like the centre of London's entertainment scene.
There were food and arts stalls all around a skating area that went around Shakespeare's statue, with lots of people wandering about in a cheerful mood. I stopped by to see the Leicester Square Christmas Market, and it was a bustling, festive start to our holiday visit to London.
There were different food and drink stalls, with an ice rink in the middle. It was packed, and the food queues were long, but the atmosphere was really festive. A lovely place to visit during the holiday season.
It's right in the centre, surrounded by cinemas and places to eat. You can just pass through or hang around for a while. There's always something happening, and it's more fun if you look for all the movie reference statues.
It's a lively spot, though quite touristy, and there's usually some kind of street event. Kids especially love the Lego and m&m stores, and the Paddington Bear statue adds to the fun. Chinatown's food market is nearby too, with plenty of choices.
