There’s no street or traffic noise, but in room 4010 we heard and felt the Tube rumbling every few minutes. We didn’t mind it, and the steady sound helped us sleep, though I can see it bothering someone else. It’s an underground hotel beside the Underground, so train noise seems hard to avoid. The hotel should be more upfront about it in some rooms. The room had no windows, but the good air conditioning kept it from feeling claustrophobic. It felt more like a cocoon, and we noticed no odd smell. We slept well on the comfortable beds, and the room’s total darkness was welcome during a heat wave. The location was terrific for theatres, shopping, and plenty of places to eat, with Kings Cross only a few Tube stops away. A shelf by the sink, a little rail for clothes, and a hairdryer would help. Even Travelodge has hairdryers. We found it a very comfortable budget choice for one or two nights. We’d come back at a similar price. Our stay averaged £110 a night, which was great for this location.
