We used this as a base, and I’d definitely recommend it if you need somewhere to stay in the area. I was there with my daughter and grandson on 28th/29th June 2025, in a family room. The staff were absolutely lovely and explained everything we needed to know. The room was very comfortable. PS, the cafe next door is amazing!

The room seemed unsafe to me, as it was upstairs where anyone could go, and I wouldn’t recommend booking here. We paid for two nights. The woman who took the money and gave us the keys was polite, but the atmosphere felt strange, with people staring at us as if we weren’t locals. Later, downstairs, we were accused in front of other people of smoking weed upstairs, which neither my partner nor I did. Then there was what I can only describe as an illegal lock-in. Shouting and swearing carried on all night into the early hours, and they left around 3am. The pub didn’t know my partner and I were there reviewing it, after travelling from Cambridge. Be careful about these lock-ins and how paying customers are treated. The room safety also leaves a lot to be desired.

There’s a quiet garden if you want some time to yourself, and the rooms are comfortable and accommodating. It’s a nice pub, with friendly, welcoming staff and locals who were helpful with our questions. Good range of drinks, and plenty of places nearby to eat before heading back to your room. WiFi is available on site at no extra charge. I’d recommend it for anyone working away.

This is a proper, authentic pub, with a friendly manager and staff. It’s dog-friendly, and the food is good and well priced. I had two large bacon baps made the night before because I had to leave very early, which was really helpful. The furnishings are worn rather than new, and there’s no high tech feel, but I’ll definitely stay again when I’m working in the area.

For £40 a night I thought the double room was a little pricey, though the lovely area makes the rate understandable. It was clean and tidy, a nice place to get your head down. There was a good-sized shower, tea and coffee facilities, and a friendly face when I arrived.
