The rooms felt worn and dated, and the curtains and armchairs looked like they badly needed cleaning. What made the stay especially unpleasant was how we were treated. The hostess was rude from the start and didn't make us feel welcome. We'd filled in the form the night before with our breakfast choices as requested, but then she told us, without even sounding apologetic, that we could only have one egg each because she needed to save the rest for other guests. What kind of bed and breakfast won't give its guests eggs at breakfast? We've met plenty of friendly B&B hosts, so this was a real shock.

The house is beautiful, with lovely peaceful grounds along the Northumbrian coast. Jude and Dave were amazing hosts and happy to help with whatever we needed. The rooms were comfortable, and both dinner and breakfast were fantastic. A perfect base for walking and exploring the coast. Thank you!

The lounge and breakfast room were really pleasant, and the room was comfortable. Breakfast had a great range of choices. Some bits of the garden and grounds could use a little tidying, and be aware that the bedrooms are reached by stairs.

We spent four nights in the Rose room at The Old Rectory, and all the little details had been thought through. Dave welcomed us as soon as we arrived, and the room and food were both brilliant. We especially liked the good linen, china and homemade items on the breakfast table. Jude was kind enough to make us a packed breakfast for our early departure on the last morning, and we're very grateful. There was lots to do nearby: Howick Hall gardens are worth a visit, and Alnwick, the beaches and local walks were all lovely. We also enjoyed taking the bus to Berwick, a most interesting town.

We stayed in the Jill room, with beautiful views across the front of The Old Rectory, and the bed was sooo comfy. Jude and Dave were wonderful hosts, nothing was too much trouble. Dinner on our first night was delicious and nicely presented, and breakfast was a highlight too. Craster, Alnmouth and Alnwick are all nearby, so it's a perfect spot for exploring the area. What a lovely country escape. We'll definitely be back soon.
