Peregrine hall

A peaceful place to stay, surrounded by lovely gardens, and a nice area for walks. The family's three dogs are friendly, though they bark loudly when you approach the front of the house. They settle down quickly. Lostwithiel is easy to reach, but the walk back up to Peregrine Hall is steep. It was cloudy for most of our stay, around 18 to 20°C, but the pool stayed quite warm.

We had a great time at Peregrine Hall, a self-catering place in Lostwithiel with plenty of space, including off-street parking for several cars. The landscaped grounds have mature trees and interesting plants, and guests can use the swimming pool, which felt pretty refreshing. Inside, the contemporary rooms and comfortable dining areas are well equipped. We also took trips to Looe, other harbours and local attractions.

We came back to Peregrine Hall after 30 years to celebrate the first holiday we took together, and it lived up to our hopes. Such a lovely cottage and setting. The owner had left some basics and household essentials, which made self-catering that bit nicer.

I needed somewhere to stay during a complicated house move that went wrong in the middle of the pandemic, and found this place a delight, though it was chilly in winter. The owners were helpful without hovering. If you want to be completely independent while self-catering, it suits that well. It’s also well placed for Fowey, Lostwithiel and Polruan. The building has a striking Victorian Gothic feel and an idyllic rural setting with lovely views. Peacocks sometimes appear unexpectedly, and owls can be heard at night, which gives it an otherworldly atmosphere. It was originally built as "St Faith's House of Mercy for fallen girls" (!).
