I spent 17 nights at Windsor Hall in Wenlock Court. It felt very secure, with three gates or doors opened by the pass key given at check-in, plus a regular key for the room. The location is great, about a five-minute walk to Luton city centre, and public transport into London is fast and fairly cheap. My single room had an en-suite shower and bathroom. The rooms were originally built for university students, but they’re now rented to non-students because demand for student accommodation was lower than expected; many students rent off campus. There was a built-in unit with a clothes hanging area, five drawers and eight cubbies, plus a two-metre desk and chair. The bed was comfy and came with a quilt and two pillows. There’s a clean shared kitchen with what you need for self-catering. Iceland is a two-minute walk away and can also deliver. The staff made the stay especially good. Amber was kind and customer-focused, and took every request in stride with a smile. She went out of her way to find solutions. Arthur, who I believe manages the hotel side, chatted with guests and was happy to answer questions. Anton, the maintenance technician, dealt with problems quickly, quietly and efficiently. When I had a misunderstanding about extending my stay, Amira at reception sorted it out politely and promptly, with a smile.

It’s cheap and an Uber ride from the airport is short, but the basics need fixing. The mattress was awful, just a bed of metal springs, and the bathroom smelled of smoke. I also didn’t feel safe walking alone to reception in the dark, about five minutes away. New mattresses and getting rid of the smoke smell would transform the place quickly.

I’m here a couple of nights each week for work. It’s basic but fine, with clean rooms and a compact toilet and shower that do the job. The staff have all been great and seem keen to make sure everything’s okay. It’s a few minutes’ walk from the town centre. Happy to recommend.

I moved in for university in September 2020 and am still here in 2021, with no end of problems. As a student midwife, I need rest and sleep, but the paper-thin walls make that difficult. You can hear everything, even light switches and plugs being turned on. They don’t do much when we complain about flatmates. The windows barely open, so there’s no fresh air. There have been endless maintenance issues with the showers, heating and toilets, which keep needing repairs. There are no parking spaces, and there’s no discount or support for the car park behind. Rats have been in the bins downstairs. That can’t always be helped, but they have tried to deal with it.

Dromor has managed the property for two years under some kind of fishy agreement. The rates for former student rooms are horrendous and vary. Mattresses are old and soft, carpets dirty, and shared kitchens messy. The windows don’t open fully, ventilation is poor, and the walls are thin. Short-stay guests are mixed in with long-term residents. There’s a prison-style turnstile gate, no reception or security on site, and Fitzroy reception is mostly rude when handing over parcels or letters. Since April 2023, the hot water has gone out dozens of times, leaving people without it for one to six days. The area feels unsafe, with stabbing incidents. ILLEGAL EVICTION IN PROGRESS... On 14/11/2023, all residents, no matter how long they’d lived there, were told to move out within one to two weeks because the deal with Dromor had ended. The whole thing had been kept secret for 2.5 months. No notices to quit or Section 21 notices were served. Apparently, the place had been run without an HMO licence. CLV is offering people horrendous room rates of 34-54 per night.
