Travelodge Macclesfield Central

Checking in took longer than expected because nobody was at reception. The room was acceptable, but didn't feel especially comfortable, and the decor was bleak. It's a very basic, rather clinical Travelodge. There's no lock on the shower room door, though the space is so cramped that your leg more or less keeps it shut while you're using the toilet.

Much like other Travelodges, this is a budget place for a night away, in a good location. Parking opposite works well for one night, and the overnight hours are free, which carries your money over into the next day. Stay longer than 14 hours and you'll need to park at the station.

We came for a funeral, and the staff were friendly and accommodating. The room was huge, with a few small niggles that didn't really affect us. The railway line is right next door, which can be disturbing if you're not used to it. Even so, I'd stay again.

The room was clean and comfortable, accessible for my disabled husband, and the parking was convenient. The bed looked small but turned out to be perfectly adequate. The problem was the noise from the station. It wasn't trains, but loud work that began around midnight and carried on all night. Each time it stopped I felt relieved, then it started again within minutes. I managed less than 20 minutes of dozing. By 07.00 I was VERY irritable, and we had a two-hour drive ahead. I wasn't driving, thankfully, but we still needed several extra stops so my husband could rest. We certainly wouldn't have booked here if we'd known we'd have such a dreadful night.
