Madingley Hall

The building and gardens are beautiful, and the location is amazing. The accommodation was a letdown, though. There was dust built up in the furniture crevices, the TV was tiny, and the shower cubicle was dirty with nowhere to put shampoo. The sink was only knee-high. It really needs an upgrade. Breakfast was lukewarm, and there were queues for just two toasters. What a shame.

The room was clean and had a fridge, but a light and the shaver socket didn’t work, and the bathroom lock jammed. Some of the information, like the cafe opening time, was wrong. There was a good choice at breakfast. On the first day it was cooked to order and hot, but the next day it was laid out on the servery and had gone cold.

The staff were lovely and accommodating, and the bar had a nice selection with some really good drinks. I had a delicious breakfast in the charming dining room. The room was lovely too, though the shower lacked power. It wasn’t enough to spoil my stay. The building is gorgeous and the surroundings are picturesque. I’d come back.

The staff were so helpful and couldn’t do enough for us. My wife and I stayed for three nights, and it’s a lovely base for exploring the area. The rooms were comfortable but simple, as we were told they used to be university rooms. Breakfast was great, and we had one nice meal in the terrest bar. I asked about a tour, but they stopped offering it when COVID came. I’d love to see it brought back, it would be awesome. If I’m passing through and need somewhere to stay, I’d definitely come back.
