A few of us booked this lovely little hotel for one night because it was close to our venue, and we struck gold. The staff were lovely, and the rooms were clean, comfortable and really good value. There's a nice little bar downstairs and a pleasant breakfast spread. The area is beautiful and quiet too.

The rooms were clean and spacious, and the staff were great. Our skylight wouldn't close all the way, though, and I was awake at 5 in the morning. I could also hear every word the noisy people next door were saying. Breakfast was cereal and bread with a four slice toaster. The big jam jars weren't very convenient when people carried them over to their tables. All in all, not bad.

The only good thing I can say is that the receptionist was helpful, cooperative, pleasant and professional. He was doing his best to manage the place, though it seemed understaffed while I was there. The hotel name and exterior had changed, but the booking website hadn't been updated. When I arrived, I waited about five minutes at reception before anyone helped me. A police officer came in and went somewhere in the hotel. I was told the restaurant had closed. My room was on the first floor, along a corridor with a few empty, dark rooms standing open, which felt unsettling and unsafe. The room itself was very small and dim. The headboard and cupboards had lots of scratches and dents, the lock seemed a little loose to me, and outside noise came through clearly. As a young woman in a dingy hotel, I didn't feel safe at all. I was so unnerved that I booked another hotel right away, went downstairs, explained the problems and got a full refund. I was out within 10 to 15 minutes of arriving. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

Our wedding day was amazing, and the food was fantastic. My guests and I were also very impressed by our rooms and how well the staff organized things on the day. In the run-up to our reception in May, though, getting in touch with management to finalize plans was a repeated struggle. We'd had a tasting six months earlier, but the final details weren't confirmed until two weeks before the wedding. I was also disappointed that the manager hadn't clearly passed my decorating instructions on to the staff. Although I'd been assured everything would be set up as discussed, my bridesmaids ended up helping the staff decorate just before the reception. We're grateful for what went right, but a dedicated wedding coordinator could have made a real difference and avoided much of the stress beforehand.

We'd been a little hesitant about booking because of other reviews, but were very pleasantly surprised. We arrived at midnight and the 24 hour concierge helped us quickly and professionally. Our room was spacious, clean and had all the amenities we'd expect, with just a few small areas needing some TLC. We were glad to find a complimentary light breakfast of toast and cereal in a lovely dining room. We were there with a toddler and a baby, and would definitely stay again.
