Seashells was the first lodge on the right as you come in. It had a lovely garden, and once we’d cleaned it up, we enjoyed staying there. Our daughter loved the big field and park, and there are beautiful walks nearby, including the cliffs along the trails past Soar Mill cove Hotel. The lodge was not very clean when we arrived, and we spent a day cleaning pet hairs, moldy apple cores and a nest of dead woodlice. Some door handles were hanging off. There are beautiful places to walk, and the retreat is in an amazing spot, but you need a car. There’s no public transport, and taxis are only available sometimes. Shops are miles away, so a little shop onsite would be useful. A reception to greet holidaymakers might help too.

Jane, the manager, was friendly and helpful whenever we had a problem. The modern lodges are beautifully furnished, clean and maintained to a very high standard. Parking beside the chalet is easy, and the spacious site has lovely views. It would have been helpful if the website listed the shop and pizza hut opening hours.

Midships Lodge no.15 really suited our grown-up family. We’re regular visitors to The South Hams and have rented all kinds of places over the years, but this one was just right. The three bedrooms and two bathrooms made for a comfortable stay, and the spacious open-plan living area and terrace were great for spending time together. It’s a beautiful holiday home with everything we needed for a fun family getaway. Jo, the owner, was friendly and went the extra mile with local advice and help accessing amenities. The location works well for the beaches and for getting to Salcombe, Hope Cove and the surrounding villages. We cooked the fresh mackerel we’d caught that day on the bbq, yes, I’m showing off. We won’t look anywhere else for future stays and are already looking forward to returning.

We’ve stayed at privately owned No 15, Midships lodge several times now and highly recommend it. It’s a beautiful, spacious lodge, kept clean and tidy and really well equipped for a family holiday. Jo is a perfect host.

Hut number 23 was just right for us, with everything we needed for a home-from-home stay. It’s a lovely place, conveniently close to lots of areas, and the views are stunning. It’s good for people with dogs, and those without too.
