The Marine Hotel

Breakfast was a real plus, and the rooms were comfortable. The hotel is right in the centre of town and sits just off the ferry route, so getting here from Skye was easy. We had a great stay and would definitely recommend it.

We were lucky to find rooms at the Marine Hotel at short notice last September, after bad weather cancelled our ferry to Canna. My wife, a friend and I stayed for two nights. Friday night was very noisy, with celebrations from the football club out on the street just outside our rooms. We were told the next morning what was going on, so it wasn’t the hotel’s fault. Jacqueline, the owner’s daughter, kindly moved us to rooms at the back near the railway tracks for the second night, which was quiet and restful. Everything was spotlessly clean, and the staff were helpful. Breakfast was generous and excellent, especially the fantastic porridge Mark, the owner’s son, made.

I couldn’t get a room here for two nights with my dog. The hotel doesn’t seem keen to accept dogs, so keep that in mind when booking. My dog is a mental health assistance dog, and in my opinion refusing us is discriminatory. I also believe the hotel could be shut down for that behaviour.

The staff were lovely, and we really enjoyed our stay in a clean, roomy room with a sea view and a very nice bathroom. We’ll definitely come back. If you’re in Mallaig, make time for the hotel bar too. It has a warm atmosphere and nice drinks, and we had two really pleasant evenings there.
