My husband, parents, dog, and I had a wonderful stay last week. The room felt cosy and welcoming, and I wished we’d booked two nights. We had a table booked for the whole evening, but when we arrived, another customer said I couldn’t sit next to it because of the dog and her dog allergies. It’s a very dog-friendly pub, so I was a little perplexed. The staff kindly moved us to a corner booth, which worked out really well. There was plenty of choice, and the food was delicious. The staff work hard and clearly care about good service. I’d happily come back. My only regret is not staying for two nights.

We’ve been visiting The Chum for years, but this was our first overnight stay. We shared the occasion with dear friends, which made it even better. The room had a relaxed country feel, with elegant touches like William Morris Strawberry Thief lampshades, several cleverly placed mirrors, and soft white towels. The welcome tray came with gin, Yorkshire Crisps, homemade biscuits, tea, and coffee. Dinner included two courses and a superb bottle of wine. Quizmaster Chris and Andy, who put the quiz together, made for great entertainment. It was lovely to hear Ella Langley in the music round. Breakfast was exactly what we’d hoped for, top notch. Thanks to Gary and all the staff for a memorable evening.

They went out of their way to cater for our food intolerances, which we really appreciated. It’s a lovely pub with excellent food and a big range of drinks. Gin is their speciality, but there’s a good choice of beer too. Would definitely recommend. Mains were about £25 in May 2026.

The setting is great, the staff were all helpful and nice, and there’s an absolutely fantastic drinks list, with more than 200 gins. We went on a busy Sunday with a large group, and the food got mixed reactions. The sardines, sticky toffee pudding, and chips were top notch, but the wagyu burger could’ve been juicier, the fish batter tasted odd, the roast beef was a bit tough, and the cheese and onion pie was very dry. A very nice country pub, with enough gin to keep even the most hardened alcoholic busy for a while.

The food was fantastic. We shared the traditional pub and seafood sharer, which had loads of great flavours. I could’ve eaten one by myself, but it was still good to split between two. I’d add a side of chips. Inside, it was cosy and welcoming, with lots to look at, old-school features, and a lovely warm open fire that smelled divine. There’s a great choice of beers and plenty of gin, plus a cracking wine list with lots of lovely options.
