We walked down from the cottage where we were staying to get food, and the prices were massively high. The menu was a bit strange. The triple cooked chips were gorgeous, but they tried to charge us £5 for a tiny bowl of “side salad”, just a child’s handful of Co-op bistro salad straight from the bag. We promptly sent it back. We also got a starter bowl of mussels for £11, about 18 of them in a very runny, flavourless sauce that needed more garlic and seasoning. Such a shame, because it’s a good spot, nicely decorated, with a lovely outdoor seating area. It could be nice if you don’t mind getting your wallet rinsed.

The pool and sauna are top quality, and my morning swim was excellent. Since it’s an outdoor pool in North Yorkshire, I expected it to be Baltic, but it was heated just right. I booked room only for a Tuesday night, so I wasn’t expecting much more. The place is well designed, and I got the sense they were proud of it. One thing to know: the restaurant and breakfast are closed Mon/Tues. The recommended pub is in flamingo land, which was bizarre to get to and the last place I wanted to eat. It looked like a decent country pub had been swallowed by a soulless theme park, so I drove to Pickering instead. Apart from that, it’s a bit of a gem.

The pool was a lovely extra, and the grandchildren had a great time in it. We came to Dewars with family for my 70th birthday and had such a wonderful stay. The rooms have superb decor, the hotel is beautiful, and the food was delicious. Stuart and his staff were excellent, nothing was too much trouble. We loved it and will be back. Thanks, until next time!

David deserves a special mention for being so attentive and accommodating, and the whole team were fantastic. We came back for our second visit in April 2026 and the service was outstanding again. It’s an exceptional hotel and restaurant in every sense. I can’t recommend this place highly enough.

Breakfast was fantastic, and we had a superb evening meal with lovely staff looking after us. Our room’s decor and finish were stunning, with amazing attention to detail. An incredible stay.
