The New Globe Inn

We only stopped in for a drink. The barman was warm and friendly, the beer was good, and the little room at the front was peaceful and relaxed.

My wife and I had lunch here today. The food suited this kind of pub and the menu was fairly simple, but enough. It's a traditional pub in the town centre, with a good choice of ales and no fancy polish.

The bus station is only a short walk away, with connections to Scarborough and Whitby, which was handy. We slept well in a comfortable room, and the staff were friendly. Karaoke was going on in the lively bar downstairs, though it didn't run too late. It's a nice little town, and we'd definitely visit again.

I stayed one night for £36, and this is about the hotel, not the pub downstairs. It might be a 3.5 rather than a 4, depending on how much quiet matters to you. The room was very clean and the bed was comfortable, with soft bedding. Staff were lovely and helpful with my bike, and the location is very central. Small gripe: the toilet roll was on the floor instead of in its holder. Sleep could be tricky. There's a huge green-lit exit sign inside the small room, so an eye mask is essential, and the curtains don't keep out much daylight. The wifi wasn't working, and nobody replied to my email about breakfast. The rooms sit above the pub, so you'll hear karaoke, and it's on a busy street with poorly insulated windows, meaning traffic comes through very clearly. Noise didn't bother me much, but you might want earplugs.
