The lounge had a lovely log fire, and the food and drinks were fine. It’s a good place if you’re after peace and quiet, though restaurant prices are quite high and the bar seemed especially focused on whisky. We stayed in the ground-floor room, which worked well with its own entrance and bathroom. Once we found the entrance, check-in was easy and we were welcomed warmly. The shower had no handrail, and the ramp into the room was very steep for someone with limited mobility, even without a wheelchair.

Lynn was a great help when I booked over the phone, sorting out a problem straight away and handling everything very professionally. We got booked in at the last minute, and had a fantastic stay. The hotel is in a lovely, quiet spot, the staff were friendly and helpful, and the room was very comfy. Breakfast was hearty, and we really enjoyed the evening menu. York city centre isn’t too far away. Thanks so much, we’d definitely recommend staying here.

We enjoyed the restaurant and the open fires, and the country house itself is lovely. The staff were friendly and helpful. Both breakfast and dinner were good, although a little more choice would have been welcome for a stay of several nights. Hopefully we’ll be back soon.

Burrythorpe felt warm and comfortable in the main areas, and the setting is beautiful. The staff were courteous, friendly and professional, and were happy to help with anything. Our room was wheelchair friendly, though the ramp was a little steep to manage without help. A wall seat in the bathroom would have been useful, but I had brought my own shower stool, so it wasn’t a problem. The food was good quality at reasonable prices. The whole place felt as comfortable as slipping into an old pair of slippers and settling by the fire. I’d highly recommend a visit.

The location is out of this world. We stayed at Burythorpe House for bed and breakfast and found the room lovely, everything beautifully clean, the food wonderful and the service excellent. I can highly recommend it.
