The food and choice of pints were really good, and the prices were fair, so I’d come back. But the service was very uneven. One staff member was doing most of the work and stayed calm throughout. The other, with long curly hair, spoke dismissively and unprofessionally to him and to customers, including me. It was uncomfortable to watch and clearly affected everyone’s experience. I also heard some customers say they were unhappy with his service and that he often speaks this way to people and treats colleagues badly when overwhelmed.

Room 5 was clean and had good facilities, including plenty of tea, coffee and biscuits, a decent sized wall mounted TV and a hairdryer. The staff were excellent and showed us to the first floor room. Getting out after pub hours means using a metal staircase one floor up, so it isn’t suitable for wheelchair users or others with mobility needs. On Saturday, a live band played directly below us until 10:45 pm, and it was very loud. It would help to explain that on arrival, and also tell guests where to leave the key when they go, in the box by the car park gates. It was a good two night stay, but could have been better.

The room was spacious, clean and comfortable enough for me to study, and staff were spot on. The town centre pub is easy to find and looked very presentable. I didn’t try the food or beer, and evening trade noise wasn’t a problem. The overnight security gate was a real plus. There’s a passable pizza place almost opposite, plus a nearby Morrisons open from 6am for a modest breakfast to take away with your travel mug. I’d book again, the value for money is definitely there. I’d just suggest painting the en suite ceiling. The linen was spotless and had no smell, though it didn’t have that TV advert freshness. I’d checked before booking and wasn’t surprised that breakfast wasn’t included, keeping in mind this is a pub in the town centre.

The atmosphere was just right, and everyone was welcoming and friendly. The food was delicious, and the staff were fantastic. Great service all the way through. Can’t wait to go back! 🍻
