Tawny Barn

The barn was lovely, and its rural setting made for a nice getaway. We had a good weekend, but what happened afterwards left a bad taste. The hosts posted a harsh, untrue review about cleanliness on the booking app. We’d followed their instructions before leaving: stripped the beds, put the towels in the showers, emptied the bins and started the dishwasher. We’d also paid a cleaning fee, so being accused of leaving the place dirty felt unfair. I wouldn’t recommend staying here if you’re expected to hoover and mop someone’s home after paying for cleaning. The service was poor when we called to change the booking after friends fell ill. We were charged for extra guests, which was fine, but weren’t told there’d be no extra bedding. The six of us had to share three duvets and some throws. We made do because the change was last-minute. Later, there was confusion over the extra charge because the invoice had been raised incorrectly on their end, and they demanded Bacs payment. The booking app eventually sorted it out for both sides.
