The staff are the reason Travelodge gets five stars from me. They were welcoming from my first day, really friendly, and treated me like family. They made the stay a pleasant one, and I can't say enough about how well they looked after me. Management needs to pull its socks up, though. Honestly, the way guests are treated by the business side is a joke. P.S. Trudy, I passed.

Adele at reception was polite, helpful, quick, and greeted us with a smile. We enjoyed her respectful banter and sense of humour. There is free parking outside, but remember to register your vehicle at reception when you arrive. The room was spacious and the bed very comfortable. There aren't any drawers, though, which seems a waste of the room's space and makes a longer stay from a suitcase difficult. The bathroom felt cramped, and the seal behind the bath taps needs replacing because it's black with mould. The switches also looked grubby, with grey, greasy grime along the sides. On entering, I noticed a strong bleach smell in the lift and most of the shared areas. I'd stay again, but only for a couple of nights. I hate living out of a suitcase.

Our room was spacious and the bed really comfortable. Steph, the cleaner, was lovely and helped us out at short notice with fresh bedding, towels, and toiletries. Adele at reception and Christie were just as friendly and approachable, helping with what we needed and giving us information, including where to find food when we were out. My partner and I stayed at the Travelodge for a week, and the staff were welcoming and polite from the start. I'd recommend it for good value.

We were after an affordable place for one night, and this suited us well. The staff were friendly and very helpful, and we had a comfortable, quiet stay. The cafe and bar are on site, though we didn't try them. It was also handy for the Transporter Bridge, about a mile away, which we'd planned to visit. Many thanks.

The parking issue was the final straw. I registered my car on their tablet, then got charged a £70 parking fine days later. After I complained, the hotel gave me £14 back and a free breakfast for a future stay. That £14 didn't even cover what we'd spent at the bar, where staff didn't seem to know what they were selling. I won't stay at any Travelodge again. If you're in Middlesbrough, don't book this hotel. My partner and I had booked one night to see family and friends. When we arrived, the entrance smelled of marijuana, and the smell carried through the corridors and lift. The receptionist seemed rushed and out of sorts. Instead of greeting us, they snapped, “Have you been here a while? Can you not see there’s a number, I’m too busy to be sat here all night?” My partner, another guest, and I looked at each other in disbelief. We'd only just arrived. We got our key and walked along stained carpets to the room. After changing, we went to the bar and spent £24 on two gins. When we returned late, there was blood on the shower floor and holes at every end of the bedding. We couldn't find any staff or get an answer at the number. We had nowhere else to go, so we had to stay. The weed smell was still drifting through the place. Absolutely appalling.
